Valentine’s Day 2011

Valentine's Day 2011

Click for full resolution.

I had a nice, long and drawn out rant I had written for this post, but instead I’ll just slap down the point I was trying to reach and move along.

Instead of buying lavish niceties, make your significant other breakfast in bed, write a poem or hold a mutual competition to see who can look the most foolish on a street corner in a gorilla suit*. In ties. And fedora hats. With monocles. I wholeheartedly recommend this last option.

Or better yet, do something meaningful. Help out those who really need to be shown love, kindness and attention mid-winter. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen. I’m serious, you brainwashed, street corner consumer floozy.

*We shall explore the 1001 uses of gorilla suits in the future.

On a completely unrelated note, RoastedToast turns 7 on the 13th of Febtober!

Super Bowl XLV

Some of my thoughts about the whole Super Bowl shindig.

  • Michael Douglas should narrate more.
  • Aguilera botched the anthem.
  • I am thrilled to have a team I like in the game (Packers).
  • To paraphrase a friend: I don’t know who Max is, but he brews a good Pepsi.
  • It has become an annual event designed to hemorrhage patriotism and product placements.

That said, my favorite Super Bowl XLV commercials and more thoughts throughout the game:

  • Audi’s “New Luxury” at 10:30 in the first quarter.
  • Nearly all of the Doritos commercials.
  • I want to see Cowboys and Aliens now.
  • The VW / Star Wars commercial at 9:28 in the second quarter.
  • The jury is still out as to whether Fergie is an improvement to Guns N’ Roses songs.
  • E-Trade hasn’t lost their touch at 12:39 in the third quarter.
  • Eminem must be hurting for some publicity with all these commercial spots. I rather liked the Chrysler one at 4:22 in the third quarter. Calm, mellow and classy.
  • The movie Rio looks like a rip off of Happy Feet. Singing birds? Check. Dancing birds? Check. Bird that is outcast from the colony for being different that is a direct reference to the undertones of racism from this country’s past? Check.
  • Aaaaaand Go Packs!

Time Flies

Happy Birthday CMOS Process 100126!

One year ago I finalized my CMOS masks.

Eye candy here and here. Also, below.

Small Vernier Scale. Large versions of theses are also present on my masks for 'debugging' purposes. They only went down to 75µm or so.

Another Vernier Scale, this time with a human hair thrown on top for comparison. Measurements provided to show size differences.
